2. What we cover in training?

Training can be as in depth or focused as a client would like. We can adjust and cover any area that a client would like to concentrate on. Introduction to Boating Safety: Essential safety equipment every boater should have on board. Understanding navigation rules and aids to navigation. Tips for safe boat handling and maneuvering in different weather conditions.

Docking and Anchoring Techniques: Step-by-step instructions for securing boats, docking, and anchoring.

Navigation and Charting: Introduction to nautical charts and their symbols. Understanding latitude, longitude, and GPS navigation. Plotting courses and calculating distances. Identifying navigational hazards and planning safe routes.

Vessel Maintenance and Care: Routine maintenance tasks for keeping your boat in top condition. Tips for winterizing and storing your boat during the offseason. Understanding engine systems and troubleshooting common issues. Cleaning and maintaining different types of boat hulls.

Weather and Seamanship: Understanding weather patterns and how they affect boating conditions. Interpreting weather forecasts and using weather apps and resources. Seamanship skills, including understanding tides, currents, and wind patterns.

Environmental Awareness: The importance of protecting marine life and ecosystems. Guidelines for responsible boating to minimize environmental impact. Proper disposal of waste and pollutants. Promoting sustainability and conservation efforts.

3. How long do the training sessions last?

We use a 2 hr. minimum for our training and a maximum of 4 hours. We find that anything less than 2 hours does not allow the clients enough time to acclimate well to the instruction. Conversely, after 4 hours, the clients have been exposed to the maximum amount of new information that needs to be digested and reviewed at their own pace. Follow up sessions will reinforce any areas that need attention.

4. Can we book a Captain for an accompanying excursion to try out new techniques and skills under a watchful eye?

Absolutely! We are happy to branch out with you as you progress in your newfound nautical knowledge and skillset. We can offer as much or as little guidance along the way, and just add that level of security to keep you safe and sound.

5. Can I hire a Captain for excursions?

Yes you can - either on our vessel or your own boat! There is a 6 person maximum for this service, per USCG Rules for uninspected vessels. Sunset Cruises, fishing trips or just sightseeing from port-to-port.
